Italy Trip - Villa d'Este

The  Villa d'Este  is a 16th-century villa in Tivoli, near Rome, famous for its fountains. It is now listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.  Tivoli had been a popular summer residence since ancient Roman times due to its altitude, cooler temperatures and its proximity to the  Villa Hadriana,  the summer residence of the Emperor  Hadrian I.   The Villa d’Este is one of the most outstanding examples of Renaissance culture at its apogee. The gardens of the Villa d’Este had a profound influence on the development of garden design throughout Europe. The Villa d'Este, one of the first giardini delle meraviglie , was an early model for the development of European gardens.
