Trip to Paris - II

In the previous post, you've got the overview of Paris. Now let's explore and dig more into Paris.

Arc de Triomph - The Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile is one of the most famous monuments in Paris. The construction of the  Arc de Triomphe in  Paris was ordered in 1806 by Napoleon, the French Emperor.

Napoleon wanted to honor the Grande Armee, the name of the French army at that time. The Grande Armee had conquered most of Europe and was then considered invicible. After his Austerlitz victory in 1805, Napoleon said to his soldiers : "You will return home through archs of triumph". The names of 128 battles of the first French Republic and Napoleon's Empire are written on the white walls under the vault together with the names of the generals who took part in them.

Luxembourg Palace - Built in 1625 by Salomon de Brosse for Queen Marie of Médicis, the Palais du Luxembourg was a residence for the Royal Family.

Beginning in 1835 the architect Alphonse de Gisors added a new garden wing parallel to the old corps de logis, replicating the look of the original 17th-century facade so precisely that it is difficult to distinguish at first glance the old from the new.

The new wing included a library (bibliothèque) and contains some 450,000 books.

Since 1958 it has been the seat of the French Senate of the Fifth Republic (current republican constitution of France). The President of the Senate is the second most important figure in the country after the President of the Republic
